The theme for 2022 continues the thread started in 2021, when hikers were asked to reflect back on the year 2020. For 2022, hikers are asked to reflect on what they have learned on their journey so far. I hope to arrange with another trail angel near the CA/OR border to present the same question in a hiker register.
The first entry in 2022.

Out with the old and in with the new. I replaced my 2021 hiker register with a new one. The prompt for this year is: “What have you learned on your journey so far?” There are a couple innovations for this year: I am trying out using a physically-smaller journal for the register, so that I can swap one out for a new one if it gets soaked and it becomes hard to write new entries without the ink smearing. (I bought four identical journals; hopefully, that will be enough.) More importantly, I am coordinating with another trail angel to place a similar hiker register/journal near Bridge of the Gods, to compare what hikers learn in the 2,000+/- miles of hiking through the remainder of California and Oregon. I’ll supply the link for contributions to that second register once I have it.
